In First Steps in Music, the goal is to instill the first building blocks of musicality. This allows the student to eventually become:

* Tuneful: to have tunes in their heads and learn to coordinate their voices to sing those tunes.

* Beatful: to feel the pulse of music and how that pulse is grouped in either twos or threes.

* Artful: to be moved by music in the many ways music can elicit an emotional response.

What is First Steps in Music?

First Steps in Music is a teaching approach and curriculum for young children developed by John Fieirabend, an American music educator.

What will my child learn?

Instead of teaching musical concepts, this method focuses on “music readiness” and develops a child’s aptitude for music in a child-friendly way!

What type of music will be used?

The child will experience many unaccompanied simple melodies. This is very appropriate for their age and musical ear. However, we will also use classical music for movement, nursery rhymes, and song-tales that might be accompanied.
