Music Summer 2012

Private Lessons

The Guild offers private music instruction in brass instruments, clarinet, flute, guitar, oboe, percus- sion, piano, recorder, saxophone, violin, and voice. Lessons are typically one thirty minute pri- vate lesson per week. Students may begin lessons anytime during the year depending on space availability. Private music lessons are $18 per lesson for Guild members and $20 per lesson for nonmembers. A Matinee Music program is available for lessons scheduled before 2:00 pm Monday

Music for Little Mozart's

This class was written to provide appropriate piano instruction for four, five, and six year olds. Sing- ing and listening skills are developed simultaneously with an appreciation of a variety of musical styles. The materials in this course combine to create an exciting and imaginative atmosphere both in the lesson and at home. Private lesson fees apply.

The curriculum is “Let’s Play.” The theme is: All the ways you play—at home, in the school yard, during your family time together. In class we’ll play “Follow the Leader” and other playground games to help your child develop listening and singing skills while strengthening movement and hand-eye coordination. In fact, during class we nurture all areas of child development: Physical, social, emotional, cognitive, linguistic and musical. As a family activity, it’s the perfect opportunity to play and learn together. In your Home Kit, find more activities, songs and games you can do together to play and learn at home, too.

Theatre Classes Summer 2012

Starlight Actors June 4th-8th, M-F $50 member/$60 non- member

Shooting Stars, Ages 5-8 9-10 am

Travel through the sky to the world of acting! In this class, the starlight will discover the

world of theatre all around them. They will learn how to critique other actors properly and most importantly, work with different characterization skills. The starlight will land among the stars in this beginners acting class! Get ready to soar because this class will end with an awesome performance on the Dalton Little Theatre stage on June 8th! This camp will be held at Dalton Little Theatre.

Lights, Camera, Acting!

Geared towards the young actor, this class offers the basic tools needed to become an actor in

training. Topics covered in the class include character work, critiques, stage combat, how to audition for plays and how the young actor uses their instrument: the body, effectively. Acting

for the camera will also be covered. This workshop will teach the young actor to trust them- selves, their acting partners and to be spontaneous. This class will end with a performance on

the Dalton Little Theatre stage on June 8th. This camp will be held at Dalton Little Theatre.

Improv and Comedy

Shooting Stars, Ages 14-18

“Whose line is it anyway?” Ms. Beth will lead students through exercises and games which

encourage teamwork, concentration, and the creation of characters and scenes. Students will also learn comfort in social settings, creative thinking abilities, public speaking, and brain-

storming ideas. The last day of class will have an awesome improve performance that will in- corporate audience participation on the DLT stage on June 8th! This camp will be held at Dal- ton Little Theatre.

Dance Summer 2012

Ballet Dalton Company Dance Intensive June 4-8 and June 11-15 10:00 am - 3:00 pm $270

Company camp is required for all Ballet Dalton company members.
Ballet Dalton camp will consist of a two hour technique class each morning, an hour for lunch, 2 hours of rehearsal (for upcoming season)
each afternoon as well as dance history throughout each week. (Guild Dance Ensemble members may participate in the morning
technique classes from 10:00-12:00 if interested.) Ask Ms. Jessie for details. Dancers should bring their lunch.

Ballet Dalton Master Series 4 Tuesdays - June 19 and 26, July 10 and 24
10:00 am - 12:00 pm $70

This Senior Company series will consist of a technique class each of the weeks noted above with a master teacher in various dance
genres. This series is mandatory for Ballet Dalton Senior Company. You may pay a one time fee of $70 or you may pay $17.50 per
week. Master Teachers TBA.

 


 

Ballet Dalton/Ensemble Master Tier
4 Thursdays - June 21 and 28, July 12 and 26
11:00 am - 12:30 pm $60

Continue your training through the summer with our ongoing master tier. Each week will offer something different in-
cluding variations, jumps and turning classes, stretching and strengthening, etc. This series is strongly recommended
for all Ballet Dalton Junior and Senior Company and Guild Dance Ensemble members. You may pay a one time fee of $60 or you may pay $15.00 per
week.

Adult Ballet

Tuesdays - June 5-26 and July 10-31

This class combines the strengthening and elongation of a traditional ballet barre with an emphasis on
stretching, combinations and fitness to work your body top to bottom. It is a beginning to intermediate level
ballet class that offers a fun way to add to your workout routine. Please wear leotard and tights or comfort-
able clothes you can move in.

Mommy and Me Ballet Fun Ages 18 months-2 years
  4 Tuesdays, June 12, 19, 26 and July 10
9:30 - 10:00 am $40

Parents participate along with their child to help them in the correct movements and encourage the parent/child bond. The class includes
stretching and body awareness exercises and traveling steps that are practiced while holding the hand of the parent and/or
instructor. The last segment of the class is devoted to creative time between the parent and child. This class meets once a week for
30 minutes. Comfortable clothes should be worn with socked or bare feet.

For young ballerinas! In an atmosphere of fun, this class will introduce young children to the world of dance. Children will develop an
awareness of music and rhythms and will learn to use their bodies and imaginations. Students may choose to take both Tutus and
Tumbling, or just Tutus.

The Ballet and Jazz Summer Sessions go hand in hand. Students will have the opportunity to participate in
both Ballet and Jazz classes and maintain their dance training throughout the summer. Dancers will learn
age appropriate ballet and jazz movements and combinations and will dance to an array of musical selec-
tions. This will be a fast paced and fun session for the dance enthusiast. This camp is appropriate for both
beginners and those with some dance experience.

Alice In Wonderland's Tea Party

Drop your little princess off at Studio 111 for an enchanting day full of dance and crafts! We will be exploring
movement using our imaginations and learning about the fundamentals of ballet. Students will also partake
in craft time and snacks (provided by parent). The week will conclude with an informal showcase performed
for our families and friends. We suggest each student have a special tutu or princess costume for the end of
the week performance. Join us following the mini-performance for punch and cookies.

Let your dancer unleash their creativity all to the music of Disney’s new hit movie Brave as we weave the

Step out of your box and into the studio as you pop and lock into Hip Hop class. Classes start off with a ba-
sic warm up and then a hip hop combination is broken down each week. This class is perfect for beginning-
intermediate level students. Basic gym or dance clothes should be worn with dance or gym sneakers.

Discovering Art Camp

In this class, children will have the opportunity to learn about art while experimenting with a variety of media. Students will learn how to express their imaginations while exploring drawing, painting, ceramic and sculpture techniques. Each child will create multiple art-

works while gaining a better understanding of the creative process..

Cartooning & Drawing Camp

In this fun class, students will learn the methods and techniques for creating their own cartoon characters. While using their imagina- tion, students will learn inking, proportion, perspective, basic drawing techniques, and caricature!

Painting & Drawing Camp for Teens

(*Students can sign up for the session 3 and the session 5 Painting and Drawing Camp for Teens for $150.) In this one-week work- shop, students will expand and develop their drawing and painting skills. The basic rules of art will be covered such as color theory,

contour, value and perspective. Student drawings and paintings will come from abstract, still life, landscape and figurative subjects.

Does your child want to learn ceramics? They will have fun learning the basic principles of hand-building including pinch pots/slab/

coil techniques. Basic wheel throwing skills will be taught as well as design techniques for functional pottery. Your child will enjoy taking home finished glazed pieces. Class size is limited so register soon! class.)

Masterpieces Art Camp

CLASSES FOR ADULTS

Painting with Acrylics $90

Thursdays 10 am - 12 pm

Class will meet 6/7, 6/21, 6/28, 7/5, 7/26, 8/2, 8/9, 8/18 (8 classes)

Acrylic paint is an amazingly versatile medium that is easy to learn. In this class, students will explore basic and ad- vanced techniques of painting using acrylics as an expressive medium. The emphasis will be on developing the stu- dent’s skill level while developing a personal original painting style. Abstract, still-life, landscape, and figurative subjects

will be used. This class is for beginning, intermediate and advanced artists. Instructor will provide a supply list.

This fun class provides individualized instruction for students of all levels and media. So whether you are an experi- enced watercolor painter or a beginner with acrylics, you will benefit from this relaxed, fun and positive learning environ-

Pottery: Face Jugs Workshop $100 + $25 materials fee

Saturday, June 16 10 am-3 pm (Lunch break from 12-1, bring a sack lunch)

“Face Jugs” as an art form were traditionally hand-made objects that were made for their utility and original design. They served as vessels for syrup, water, whiskey, pickling crocks, mugs and churns. In this workshop the student will construct a Face Jug by beginning with a simple cylinder form. Facial expressions will be created through pinched,

pulled and plugging techniques. Don’t miss this opportunity to make such a unique clay object.

Marbling Workshop $100 + $25 materials fee

Saturday, July 14 10 am-3 pm (Lunch break from 12-1, bring a sack lunch)

Explore the craft of marbling on paper in the unique and creative workshop. The instructor will cover the calligraphic process of drawing with color on a fluid surface to produce a one-of-a-kind print, a mono-type image. The possibilities

are endless as students apply their designs to create note cards, framed prints and much more.

Crash Course in Basic Drawing $20 + $5 materials fee

Tuesday, July 24 6:30 pm-9 pm

In this short “crash course”, students will learn to see in terms of lines, shapes and values, which are the essential skills required to make good, satisfying drawings. Also covered will be the basics of contour and gesture, perspective, propor-

tion, and shading techniques. Whether you are just starting out exploring the visual arts or if you simply want to improve your painting—this is the class to take. All materials included.

Life Drawing Open Studio $25

Saturday, June 23 10 am-3 pm (30 minute lunch break, bring a sack lunch)

Some instruction will be provided to those who want it in this Life Drawing Open Studio event. There will be a combination of short poses and long poses and a variety of art models. Participants must bring their own drawing materials and paper. Contact Bradley

Celebrate birthdays and other special occasions with an Art Party at the Creative Arts Guild. What medium does the child or adult particularly enjoy? We will create an art activity to fit that interest. $150 for up to ten children; $15 for each additional child. (A $150 deposit charged to your credit card is required to hold the date.)
