Sculpture, Gymnastics, Poetry, Painting and Music at the Guild this Weekend

Russian Sculptor to Exhibit at First Friday

The first weekend in May at the Creative Arts Guild promises something for everybody. First Friday kicks off with a phenomenal sculpture exhibit by Russian sculptor Oleg Zakomorny in the Guild’s main gallery. Following Friday’s opening on Saturday morning will be a Gymnastics Expo on the Guild’s concourse and concludes with an evening of Poets and Painters in the Gallery. Sunday, the students of music instructor, Jeri Zacharis will have their annual recital.

First Friday artists Oleg Zakomorny is represented in the United States by Liza Davydotchuim of Atlanta and will be in attendance to discuss Mr. Zakomorny’s works. The exhibit is titled “Life’s Dance” and includes fifteen bronze cast sculptures and drawings. The representational sculptures are clearly inspired by Mr. Zakomorny’s personal relationships and experiences. He says, “Without them, neither I, nor my works would have existed. My dream is that children, tomorrow’s masters of the Earth, would see violence only on the athletic arenas and their world would be kind and beautiful. My aim is to find harmony and to create art that is sincere and vivid. Guided by the experience of the antecedent masters and respecting traditions, I am trying to find my path.”

Mr. Zakomorny was born in 1968 and graduated from Moscow State Art University. He has studied at the studio of Professor Lev Kerbel and is a member of the International Art’s Fund of the Moscow Union of Artists since 1996. His work is regularly exhibited in Russia and abroad and held in many Russian museums, galleries and private collections. Mr. Zakomorny currently lives and works in Moscow.

The First Friday opening reception for Oleg Zakomorny’s “Life’s Dance” will be this Friday, May 1st beginning at 5:30. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

In his words, “Sometimes painters are inspired by the words they hear. It’s interesting to listen and watch as both the poet and painter collaborate. We hope people will come to the Guild and be a part of the evening.”
