FROM THE DIRECTOR'S CHAIR What can possibly be more basic to people than telling stories, whether they make us laugh or cry? The stage serves as the perfect opportunity to tell a story, but it is so much more than that. Creative and imaginative, thought provoking and rib tickling, encompassing all of the art forms simultaneously, theatre celebrates all of the complexity of humanity. Theatre, one of the oldest forms of entertainment and art, combines literature with the range of human expression. Everyone benefits from theatre. Those who are introverted are provided with occasions to build their confidence, and all the extraverts are given a stage. What more could a person ask for? INSTRUCTORS The Creative Arts Guild theatre director, Jackie Daniels, has been involved with staged productions and teaching acting for 35 years. She graduated from the University of Mississippi with a Master of Fine Arts in directing in 1980. After graduating, she taught Theatre History, Film Criticism, Acting, Stage Production, Interpersonal Speech and Public Speaking at South Georgia College in Douglas, Georgia from 1980 until 1983. Following the birth of her oldest son, she spent some time away from the classroom, but not the stage, acting and directing in Colorado, Arkansas, and Mississippi. For 16 years, she created and ran a Theatre Program for Southeast High School in Dalton. During her years at Southeast, her students distinguished themselves by winning a One-Act Region competition, numerous region best actor and actress awards, region and state monologue competitions, and an English Speaking Union Shakespeare competition. Her students also received awards at the Georgia Theatre Conference and attended Governor’s Honors in Theatre. Currently, she instructs acting classes for the Creative Arts Guild and teaches Communication and Theatre classes as an assistant professor at Dalton State College.
