February’s First Friday features the self-taught artistic husband and wife team of Charles and Suzan Buckner. Both self-taught artists will be displaying their self-described folk artworks in Gallery 111 this Friday, February 5th. The Denise Stewart-Sanabria and Corey Barksdale exhibit continues in the Guild’s Main Gallery.
Ms. Buckner is a self-taught artist, who has been painting and making art for three years. She primarily works in acrylics and mixed media creating collages, assemblages and art journals. Her work is greatly influenced by her love for anything antique or vintage drawing a great deal of inspiration from eras gone by. Most of her work is done on a smaller scale --measuring 12 inches or smaller although she will be exhibiting larger pieces.
Suzan's work has been published in Stampington's magazine, "Art Journaling". as well as Stampington's 2010 Art Journaling Calendar, and other online publications. She has sold more than 300 paintings both in the United States, and internationally. She teaches private art journaling lessons and is an instructor for the Huntsville Art League.
Chuck Buckner is also a self-taught artist who creates assemblages, art dolls, and hand-carved folk art walking sticks. He recycles bits and pieces from the past and present, turning them into beautiful pieces of art for the present.
Chuck and Suzan’s work is on display at the Howard Finster Paradise Gallery and Museum in Summerville, Georgia. Suzan shows at the Chattanooga Market in Chattanooga, Tennessee and her website www.suzanbuckner.com. currently exhibits his work, with wife Suzan, in the Howard Finster Paradise Gallery and Museum in Summerville, Georgia.
Chuck returned to Athens State University, Athens, Alabama
at the age of 60, where he received his BA degree in English with a minor in Political Science. Chuck and Suzan reside in Woodville, Alabama with her their dog Eli.
