Spring for the Arts

For 14 years, the Creative Arts Guild has hosted its annual Spring for the Arts luncheon, fashion show, raffle and art market.

The event, Art Meets Fashion,  opens with a raffle filled with specialty items, gift certificates and guest passes from area businesses, organizations and art supporters and an accessories market featuring works by area artists including: Katy Colvin of Oh Jewelry!, Christina Glidden of Jewelry by Christina, Paula Gregg of Paula Gregg Studios, Traci Paden of Silks by Traci, and Alex Roberts-Pierel of Red Brick Design Co.

A luncheon and the highly popular fashion show follows. Guests have the opportunity to view the latest spring fashions from participating retailers such as Anna Ball White, Carla's Fashions, Cotton and Twine Boutique, The Fitting Room, Reese’s Fashion Gallery, Sweet Cheeks Denim Boutique and Unique Selections.

Art Meets Fashion to Benefit Arts in Education in Local Schools

Proceeds from the event help support Arts in Education programs in grades pre-K through 12 in the three area school systems. The Creative Arts Guild partners with the O.N. Jonas Foundation and participating schools’ parents’ organizations to bring programs to students. Arts experiences are provided in the Dalton Public, Whitfield County, and Murray County schools systems, and at the Elbert Shaw Regional Detention Center, Crossroads Academy, Mountain Creek Academy, and Northstar School.

Why Arts Education?

Research demonstrates that arts education is closely linked to student academic achievement, social and emotional development, and civic engagement. Through the arts, students learn to design, collaborate, problem-solve and express themselves effectively – skills which translate well into the adult world of business and commerce.

Arts education programs also provide artistic and cultural opportunities for students who have limited exposure to such experiences.

Executive Director, Amanda Brown asserts “Arts education is a cornerstone of the Creative Arts Guild’s mission and programming. We are so fortunate to be one of those rare communities that offer arts enrichment for students, especially as many school systems continue to experience state budget cuts and increasing fiscal constraints. We are always excited to take the arts beyond the Guild’s walls and out into the community.”

Through a sustained partnership with the O.N. Jonas Foundation, the Guild helps support artist residencies in area schools. The O.N. Jonas Artists in Residence program is one of many contributions the O.N. Jonas Foundation makes to Arts in Education. The Guild encourages the community to continue to support the O.N. Jonas Foundation for all that they do to enrich the lives of area children and elevate the arts presence in our community.

The Guild provides many arts enrichment opportunities for area students. Examples include field trips, a Student Arts Expo, Artists in Residence at FESTIVAL and in our schools, free art classes, and a variety of scholarships in the fine arts. If you would like to make a contribution to the Creative Arts Guild’s Arts in Education programs, please contact Amanda Brown at 706.259.1974.
